Students Start ‘Uptown Funk’ Routine, But 60-Year-Old Teacher Steals The Show

Sure, you have heard the cliché! Age is just a number, right? Sometimes, our bones and joints tell a different story! But for many people, that cliché is absolutely true. Just ask Shirley Clements, a 63-year-old high school dance teacher. Shirley was all ready to retire in 2015 from her position as a teacher. She loved her job but knew it was time to move on! But that didn’t mean she was going to waste time being sad over it. She decided to team up with her students and perform a hip-hop routine for an annual competition-one she herself had launched 19 years prior!

Just watch the footage and you will know that you have nothing to fear about aging! We have all seen many awesome videos of seniors dancing around and doing some amazing moves online. You’ll definitely favor Shirley’s performance, especially since she was 60 when it was filmed!

“Uptown Funk” by Bruno Mars begins to play and all the younger dancers head to their designated spots. Shirley then heads to the front of the boys and girls and proceeds to make everyone’s jaws drop!
She performed every move just as well as her younger counterparts. She was, after all, the one who taught them everything that they knew! The whole crowd is going crazy during the performance. At the one-minute mark, the boys take the center stage as the girls hang back. Shirley stays in the middle of the stage and continues to awe the crowd. But then she does something that many people half her age cannot even do- a headstand!

She is absolutely a legend in her own time. We couldn’t believe our eyes when we saw it!

She really closed her career out with a HUGE bang! As the performance ends, all of her students crowd around and praise her- as well they should!
